Brother Sewing Machines

I ran up my credit card bill on this one, but I couldn’t pass up the PQ1500.  I’ll call it an investment.

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been through a lot of the Brother sewing machines.  I can’t say they’re objectively better than the other brands out there, but for the money I find them to be a whole lot better than the competition.  I started on one of the basic models as a teenager, just sewing junk onto t-shirts and patching together torn-up jeans.  It was just over $40, the limit of my stretched budget for the time, and that cheap plastic box lasted me through college and up until I got a real job and upgraded.  Right now it’s still sitting up on the top shelf of my childhood closet at my parent’s house.  Now that I think of it, I should probably pull it out to see if my niece would want it.

So anyway, my new toy.  I ordered it online on Friday and it showed up this morning.  Much quicker than I expected, and securely packed and delivered.  I’m going to have to leave a nasty note for my mailman though because he keeps leaving un-signed-for packages on my doorstep without even bothering to ring the doorbell.  This has been an issue before because I don’t live in the best neighborhood.  So I unpack it, and find that it comes with even more than what I expected.  After pulling out the machine itself (heavier than I expected but overall not too hard to lift, much more ‘heavy duty’ than some of the other models.

It came with an extension table, a ton of different feet, knee lever, seam guide, and half a dozen other accessories that I haven’t even gotten the chance to check out yet.

At 1,500 stitches per minute, it’s by far the fastest of the Brother sewing machines (at least that I’ve ever used).  It’s clean, easy, and never seems to lock up.  I immediately started playing around with some spare pieces of fabric, just to see how it performed, and it’s been fantastic.

After I was done playing around, I decided to check out it’s quilting features.  I figured I’d have to put in at least a week of trial and error, but I was up and running as soon as I read through the directions.  I already finished my first quilt, I’ll put pictures up as soon as the replacement battery for my digital camera shows up!
